The Perils of Cyber-Dating. . . is a quick read and so entertaining and witty in the vein of Sex and the City. Spira encapsulates the on-line dating experience through her recount of her dating ventures, from the Latin Lover to the Boy Next Door and invites the reader to accompany her on her journey to finding true love. As someone who has lived through the travail and tribulation of dating on-line herself, this book transcends the typical “rules” books and provides a refreshing, honest portrayal of being single and searching for love in Los Angeles. This is a must read for anyone entering the on-line marketplace.

The book really wasn’t that helpful for internet dating. I have read quite a few of them: The RULES, internet dating and others, but the best one on the subject for me (because it was short – 60 pages) was:
Unlocking the Secrets of Internet Dating
Anyway, this is the content of the review I agree with:
——————————
The book is all over the place. There’s absolutely no flow to it, no consistency – some chapters are very short recollections of a few first dates gone bad, others sound like an advice column (with little to no valuable information to anyone who knows anything about human nature,) yet others consist of some out-of-place reminiscing over a past love interest.
Proof reading has been invented for a reason. I hate to sound like a spelling-Nazi, but this book is full of mistakes: spelling, punctuation and tenses are used incorrectly way too many times.
The book offers little to no literary value, it’s short, absolutely NOT funny, and even depressing (it seems that even though the author describes herself as smart, witty and attractive, any man she has ever been truly interested in completely fooled her; it’s actually quite embarrassing. )

Julie Spira tackles dating with wit and depth, and most importantly, personal experience. I admire her courage to share the stories of her life and her man search with the world. You will see yourself, men you’ve dated and most certainly gain insight to Internet dating. Treat yourself and get this book. It’s yummy to read with some hot tea in your pj’s.

Ms. Spira has taken her cyber-dating experiences and turned them into a fun and interesting must-read for anyone who has dipped, or intends to dip, their toes into the world of online dating. At times the book is a cautionary tale, and at other times it is a “how to” and “how not to” for cyber-daters. It is at times funny, and at other times poignant. In 156 pages, Ms. Spira takes the reader through the highest highs and lowest lows resulting from her online dating experiences. Throughout, however, she maintains her sensibility and sense of humor. The book only takes a couple of hours to read, but it is time very well spent.

I read Ms. Spira’s book and really enjoyed it. And believe me, although I am an avid reader I am not a “self-help reader kind of guy (not that I couldn’t benefit from such things). ” I picked it up because I thought it was going to be a “good yarn”, a series of tidbits, vignettes and advice that would be fun. And it was fun, but it was different than what I expected. I thought it was going to have more of a “pollyanna” tone about it but, no – she “put it all out there”, the good news and the bad news about internet dating, I must say. It is also somewhat of a commentary about adult dating, in general, “these days”. I applaud her optimism, I must say. Through it all she was having fun, albeit punctuated with things that were not easy – misrepresentation, for example, by others. I hope she continue to have success: with this book, her next book, life, love, and in selecting (continuing to select!) cute little dresses! I bet if you read this book you’ll pass it along to someone who you think will enjoy it. I’m still smiling about the book as I type this. Lee
