I would have preferred more back up on many of the generalizations made by Mr. Nasheed, but then again, that is the acamedician in me. His own personal experiences and observations are just that and nothing more until he provides scientific, empirical or statistical info from a scholarly source- that is in my humble opinion. True his “career” has provided him with many an insight into social issues, but alone it does not make him a sociologist or phsycologist. I did notice that he seems to think the only professional black men out there are Professional Athletes. While he does give mention to the many problems athletes have had with the law and just going buck wild, he does not lend nearly enough credit to the TRUE professional black men out there who are educated business men, lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, etc. I would have loved to see the Professional type man broken down into more sub-categories. I did an inventory of the men in my life and was happy that my catalog demonstrated that I do not have any ‘Parolees’ or ‘Scrubs. ‘ In fact, the vast majority of professionals however they do not necessarily fit the four identities prescribed by Nasheed. The largest irony I find is that most of us common folk have always heard the notion that women are complicated, after all whomever can answer the question, “What women really want or mean,” will find themselves number one on the Fortune 500! However, Nasheed has summarily defined them in much more simplistic terms and categorized them into four extremely broad generalizations in an almost caveman like ostenstation of masculinity. Likewise, we have all heard how simple men really are. Here again, Nasheed has the opinion that men are much more complex beings than women are. This is demonstrated in how he typifies men vs women. The men at least get sub-categories! Further, women are prescribed a hierarchy, while there is one implied for men, it remains unspoken in the book. Consequently, it can be surmised that this book is simply a reflection of the experiences and observations of the author and nothing more. There is some insight to be gained, but caution should be demonstrated in utilizing this information. As a woman, I did appreciate and applaud the fact that Nasheed does clearly state that all women can improve themselves and their situation and should not to rely on a man to do so. Simultaneously, the notion that men are not responsible or more or less victims when it comes the consequences of having unprotected sex, is as Mike Tyson would say- Lewd-a-kriss!

Read this book for its entertainment value rather than for its intellectual content, especially because it has none. Nasheed’s book is filled with so much generalizations and stereotypes about men, women and their views on relationships. The advice he offers seem nothing more than rhetoric re-worded in hip language.
However it was great bathroom reading and has its laugh out loud moments.

Tariq Nasheed has been vilafied by women for the things he teaches men, so he comes out with a women’s book. This book is not a feel good and be happy continuing to do the things you have always done and hope men will conform to you book. This is a book that gives women a realistic tool to look into the minds of men and to help them get the things they want out of relationships. Tariq isn’t always the most tactful, however the truth in his words will help women to accomplish their goals if they can make it pass that. I have given this book to every female I care about. Why? Because, this isn’t a book that will pander to females and say things like “If you’ve gained 100lbs and he’s not happy he’s shallow. ” We all know that the least shallow man will want a woman that is attractive to look at and when that is not the case it will not please the man. Also Tariq speaks of ACCOUNTABILITY that is not a prevalent trait with women in realationships today but women want men to be accountable for their actions. Get the book and go into it with an open mind, your understanding of men and relationships will improve.

A friend of mine suggested this book and I reluctantly agreed to read it. I am sooooooo glad I did, as a single 26 year that is very involved in the dating scene, this book gave me a great deal of insight on how men think. I highly recommend it to any female that is actively dating! Excellent book!
